Topic:  How Do I Fax (now that Winfax Pro is no longer supported)

Last Update: 23 June ‘08 (rev 2.3)

One of the questions that is occurring more frequently, now that Winfax Pro is no longer supported, is:  “how do I send availability faxes?”.  Many of you are wholesale nurseries and send your availabilities on a regular weekly basis.

One option is to ‘fool’ with Winfax ‘till it works which is becoming more and more difficult.  The other, and more useful one, is to use a faxing service.  These services typically allow you to ‘send’ an email to a fax# and have it sent by the fax service.  Some will integrate directly with Outlook, some require you to provide a PDF, but they all function by your sending a document to their service and they send it.  You are provided with a fax# (which could even be toll-free incoming and outgoing), any faxes received on the number are emailed to the address of your choice.  Depending on the service everything is either billed to your credit card or you receive a regular invoice.

The following options are available in Canada (and the US), you can do your own research of course just by typing ‘internet fax’ into Google.  All of the choices below also include incoming free pages (usually more than the outgoing).  There are MANY more, these are just ones that popped out as a reasonable deal (prices/month):

http://www.srfax.com

$39.95, 400 free outgoing pages/month, $0.25/page after that

http://www.myfax.com

$40US/$48/Cdn, 400 free outgoing pages/month, $0.12/page after that

http://www.efax.ca

$18/month, $0.12/page outgoing, unlimited incoming

http://www.mytelus.com/fax

$14.95/month, 100 free outgoing pages/month, $0.12/page after that

http://your.rogers.com/business/businesssolutions/internetfax.asp

$14.95/month, 125 free outgoing pages/month, $0.12/page after that

$7.95/month, 50 free outgoing,$0.12/page after that

http://www.onefax.com

$12.95/month, $0.022/page outgoing

If you consider the long-distance charges you are already paying on your business fax line, many of the above are a truly excellent value. Remember that ‘junk’ faxes may cost you money on the incoming side, unless filtering is available.  We neither recommend any of the above, nor have any preferences.  They’re just an excellent option if you require outgoing bulk faxing (and truly excellent for incoming faxes by email).  For incoming you’re also no longer buying ink/ribbon, paper, etc. unless you choose to print the fax after receiving it in your email.
